Ressence is unveiling at the SIHH 2018 this week its Ressence Type 2 e-Crown Concept: the first self-setting mechanical watch. As Ressence explains, this e-Crown “acts as an embedded electro-mechanical assistance system the same way an automated gearbox does in a car”. How does it actually work? First, the user has to set a reference time that the e-crown will register, and then the latter will check at least once a day the time given on the dials, automatically adjusting the position of the disc where necessary. When the watch is not being worn, it switches to sleep mode and is reactivated once on the wrist by gently tapping the watch glass. Ressence has developed a dedicated app and the time on your watch can be easily changed via Bluetooth according to your given destination. Check out the e-crown.com website for further technical explanations.
